Last night, North Korea blew up the liaison office with South Korea. This may symbolize the end of the rapprochement with South Korea and US President Donald Trump, which was launched at the 2018 Winter Olympics.

 

It is striking that Kim Yo-jong, the sister of dictator Kim Jong-un, and once the face of the rapprochement now preaching the harsh language.

North Korea has been upset about the “rapprochement” with South Korea and US President Donald Trump for some time. However, the situation has escalated in recent weeks.

The explosion that the relatively recent liaison office with South Korea destroyed last night is the culmination of that new tension.

Symbolism is significant to the Stalinist regime in North Korea. Blowing up the liaison office in Kaesong tonight is sure.

That office was created after a series of agreements between North and South Korea in 2018 and was – for the sake of clarity – a few kilometres within North Korea, not on the demarcation line between North and South.
