The rise in the number of new corona infections in Belgium is “alarming” in all provinces and age groups.

 

If the trend continues, the number of cases will pass 10,000 per day by the end of this week, virologist Steven Van Gucht said at a press conference of the national crisis centre.

According to the crisis centre, the numbers are now doubling every eight days.

“That is fast.

The maximum speed, which we do not want to achieve, is doubling every three days,” said spokesman Yves Van Laethem.

In the week of October 2 to 8, there was an average of 4,153 new infections daily, an 89 percent increase from the week before.
