Lufthansa Gets More Bookings Due to Approaching Corona Vaccines

The German airline Lufthansa already sees a significant increase in the number of bookings for next summer, due to the expectation that people can quickly return to everyday life with the arrival of corona vaccines.

That says CEO Carsten Spohr in business magazine Wirtschaftswoche. Spohr expects to transport on average half the number of passengers from last year in 2021.

The bookings for the summer period have tripled in a short time and are already booked for the Easter period.

According to Spohr, this shows how much confidence the forthcoming arrival of corona vaccines gives.

Spohr expects to reach 70 percent of 2019 in terms of passenger numbers in the summer and autumn of next year. In 2022, Lufthansa will no longer have to suffer losses.

The CEO of the German airline hopes that the German government can reduce his 20 percent stake in Lufthansa from 2023. Germany acquired that interest in exchange for 9 billion euros in state aid.
