Kyrgyzstan Election Results Annulled

The election results in Kyrgyzstan last Sunday have been declared null and void. The election commission of the country announced this on Tuesday, according to local media.

Riots broke out in the country after the polls. Opponents of pro-Russian President Sooronbaj Jeenbekov oppose the outcome.

At least ten political parties called for a repeat of the voting round after votes were allegedly bought on a large scale.

Under pressure from the demonstrations, Jeenbekov also offered to scrap the election results.

Demonstrators occupied the parliament and government building in the capital Bishkek, among other places. Various opposition groups stated that they had taken power from Jeenbekov.
