Authorities in Germany have identified 9,847 new corona cases. The pandemic’s death toll also rose by another 302, the Robert Koch Institute (RKI) announced on Monday.

 

The number of registered corona cases rose less quickly than in recent days. The RKI reported on Sunday of more than 10,000 new corona infections.

In total, according to official figures, more than 1.7 million infections have been diagnosed since the start of the pandemic. At least 1.4 million people have also recovered. More than 34,000 corona patients died.

Last month, the German government and states decided to tighten the lockdown to prevent the virus from spreading. In any case, it will last until January 10th.

Chancellor Angela Merkel will meet with state leaders on Tuesday about the next steps. It is expected that it will be decided to extend the lockdown.
