Apple CEO Tim Cook: Technology Cannot Peak Without More Diversity
There are still not enough women at tech companies worldwide, Apple CEO Tim Cook said. The CEO says there is no good excuse for the lack of women in the industry.
Cook also believes that technology cannot reach its peak without a more diverse workforce.
Cook makes the statements in an interview with the BBC. “I think the essence of technology and its effect on humanity depends on whether it has women at the table,” he said. He says technology is a fantastic thing that makes many things possible. ‘But then you must be able to work from various perspectives; otherwise, you will never have good solutions.’
The CEO reports that Apple itself has made a lot of progress in the field of diversity. The company’s workforce is currently made up of about 35 percent of women. Figures from Deloitte Global show that this percentage among tech companies worldwide is expected to be almost 33 percent by the end of 2022.
The CEO also discusses Augmented Reality (AR) and the metaverse in the same interview. “In the future, people will wonder how we ever lived without AR,” Cook says. We are currently investing a lot in that area.
