Tropical Storms Laura and Marco Kill 13 People

The two tropical storms Laura and Marco have killed 13 people in Haiti and the Dominican Republic.

The storms will pass through Cuba on Monday and are expected over the United States later this week.

Marco used to have hurricane strength, but the last 24 hours it weakened to such an extent that it is now a tropical storm again.

Laura is expected to gain strength, and that will be a hurricane on Tuesday.

The storms flooded houses on the islands cut villages from the outside world and left more than a million Dominicans without power.

Energy companies have halted oil and gas extraction in the Gulf of Mexico due to the turbulent weather.
