Russia and United States Exchange Prisoners

Russia has exchanged an American prisoner for a Russian held in the United States. The exchange took place on Wednesday after a lengthy negotiation process, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Moscow reported.

American, Trevor Reed, is a former Marine who was found guilty in 2019 of endangering two officers while he was drunk in Moscow.

He was sentenced to nine years in prison. His parents recently met with US President Joe Biden and asked the White House to do whatever it takes to bring their son back.

By handing over Reed to US authorities, Konstantin Yaroshenko returns to Russia. The Russian pilot was sentenced to 20 years in prison by a US court in 2010 for smuggling drugs into the US.

His name had already been mentioned in Russian media in reports about a possible prisoner exchange with the Americans.
