Many Flights Cancelled at Frankfurt Airport Due to Black Ice
Many flights were cancelled at Frankfurt airport on Monday due to icy weather conditions.
Passengers are asked to check online if their flight is still departing before travelling to the airport and to arrive early to check-in.
According to a spokeswoman for Fraport, the operator of Germany’s largest airport, 181 of the planned 1,100 departing and arriving flights were cancelled because the northwestern runway in Frankfurt was closed in the morning.
According to her, a lot of work is being done to make runways and airplanes ice-free.
The black ice is also disrupting train traffic across the country, Deutsche Bahn reported, with many trains being forced to run at lower speeds. The railway company warned travellers to take delays into account and also warned of slipperiness when boarding or alighting on platforms.
