Polish Border Guard Counts More Than 2.8 Million Ukrainian Refugees
Since the Russian invasion of Ukraine, 2.84 million people have fled from Ukraine to Poland, the Polish border guard reported on Tuesday.
On Monday, 20,000 new refugees arrived, an increase of 16 percent compared to the day before.
Not all Ukrainians who have fled to Poland are still there. Some have travelled on to other EU countries, such as Germany and the Netherlands.
14,400 people also crossed the border from Poland to Ukraine on Monday. In total, 738,000 people have moved from Poland to Ukraine since the start of the war on February 24.
The United Nations estimates that there are about 30,000 a day. The majority are Ukrainian citizens. They mainly travel to areas recaptured by the Ukrainian army.
