Employment in the United States grew much less strongly in September than in August and also weaker than expected.

 

The US Department of Labor announced that 661,000 jobs were added in the US, excluding the agricultural sector, last month. In average, economists had expected an increase of 875,000 jobs.

In August, nearly 1.5 million more jobs were added in the world’s largest economy, according to a revised figure.

Unemployment in the US was 7.9 percent last month compared to 8.4 percent a month earlier.

US employment was hit hard during the corona crisis, but the labour market has been recovering recently.

However, the number of corona infections in the US has recently been increasing, which could undermine the recovery.

Earlier in the day, it was announced that President Donald Trump and his wife Melania have tested positive for corona. They are now quarantined in the White House.
