Germany Hands Over Navalny Test Results to OPCW
Germany has handed the test results to show that Russian opposition leader Alexei Navalny has been poisoned to the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW).
But the German government sees no reason to share the results with Russia immediately, says a government spokeswoman.
Russia is a member of the OPCW. The country has previously been called upon by NATO to provide “full disclosure” to the organization about its production of novichok poison.
For Germany, it is clear that Navalny has been poisoned with it. “We continue to call on the Russian side to provide information,” said the German spokeswoman.
Russia insists there is no evidence that Navalny has been poisoned. On Wednesday, the German ambassador in Moscow was to appear at the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Geza Andreas von Geyr has been made clear that Russia will not tolerate the “baseless allegations”. In a statement, the ministry said Berlin is abusing the situation around Navalny to “discredit Russia”.
