Source: Apple Pays Russian Million-Dollar Fine for Market Abuse
Apple has paid a fine of more than 11.5 million dollars in Russia because, according to the Russian competition watchdog, the American technology group has abused its dominant market position in the field of apps.
Russian news agencies report this based on a person involved in the case.
Last month it was already known that Apple had been fined because app developers were obliged to use the iPhone maker’s payment system. However, Apple has not yet responded to the Reuters news agency about the matter.
Instead, the company said it “respectfully disagrees” with the alleged competitive advantage accusation earlier.
The group had already withdrawn from Russia after the Russian invasion of Ukraine. As a result, new apps can no longer be purchased in the App Store in the country, and Russian developers cannot offer their apps elsewhere.
