Death Toll From Floods in South Africa Towards 400
The number of deaths after flooding on the east coast in South Africa has risen to 395, authorities reported Friday. That is more than fifty more than was announced a day earlier.
Emergency services are still looking for dozens of missing people and have expanded the search area.
Heavy rainfall over the weekend caused extensive damage to KwaZulu-Natal province homes, roads, and bridges. The port city of Durban, with 3.5 million inhabitants, and the surrounding area were especially hard hit.
It was previously reported that nearly 41,000 people had been affected by the flooding.
