British MPs Want to Question Elon Musk About Twitter

British MPs want to question Elon Musk about his plans with Twitter. Last month, the billionaire behind Tesla and SpaceX announced that he wants to buy social media for $44 billion.

The question is posed by the parliamentary committee on digital, culture, media and sport.

“In an era where social media is facing tighter regulation worldwide, we want to learn more about how Musk will balance his clear commitment to free speech with new obligations to protect Twitter users from online harm,” said Conservatives’ Julian Knight. Wednesday.

Musk is not obliged to accept the invitation of the parliamentary committee, but usually, companies do show up. The gathered information is then used by the MPs when preparing legislative proposals.

The UK is currently working on new regulations to require internet companies to act against illegal content on their platforms. Telecom watchdog Ofcom would be given the power to impose monster fines on companies and personally prosecute business leaders.
